EFCC Arrests 26-Year-Old Over $307,000 Crypto Theft Linked to FBI Probe

The EFCC has arraigned Godslove Munachiso Obiwuru, 26, over allegations of stealing cryptocurrency in a scheme flagged by the U.S. FBI.

Obiwuru faces two counts of money laundering after investigations revealed he allegedly received 90,410.126 Gold Retriever Tokens (GLDN), worth about $307,394, stolen from a U.S. citizen’s Coinbase wallet in 2022.

The suspect pleaded not guilty and remains in EFCC custody, pending a bail hearing. Authorities say part of the stolen funds was traced to a Binance account linked to Obiwuru, who is accused of targeting multiple victims.

The EFCC described the case as part of its ongoing crackdown on cross-border cryptocurrency crimes and money laundering.
