The Senior Pastor of Conquerors Assembly, Rev. Hezekiah Duro-Aina, has advised Christians, particularly men, to refrain from practices he said could weaken their spiritual witness, including plaiting of hair and consumption of alcohol.
The cleric gave the admonition on Sunday during a church service held at Akowonjo, Egbeda area of Lagos State, where he delivered a sermon titled “How to Maintain Intimacy With God.”
Duro-Aina explained that although some social practices might not be outright sins, believers should avoid actions capable of undermining their relationship with God or sending the wrong message to non-Christians.
He said Christians were expected to live differently from others, stressing that their lifestyle should reflect the values they preach about Jesus Christ.
According to him, appearance and conduct play important roles in evangelism, noting that certain personal choices could distract people from the message of the gospel.
“I cannot plait my hair and go out to preach the word of God because people’s attention will be drawn to my appearance rather than the message,” he said.
The pastor also warned against alcohol consumption, stating that it could affect self-control and pose health risks, adding that believers should avoid habits that do not glorify God.
He further urged Christians to intentionally seek closeness with God, saying spiritual growth depends on personal commitment and a genuine desire to remain in God’s presence.
