Three killed, homes torched in fresh bandit attack in Plateau

Gunmen suspected to be Fulani militias killed three people, injured several others, and destroyed homes in Garga community, Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State, during a violent raid on Monday night.

Residents said over 100 armed men rode into the village on motorcycles, opening fire indiscriminately.

Terrified villagers fled to nearby forests and rocky terrain as the attackers set houses ablaze and looted food and livestock.

A local resident, Salihu Garga, described the incident as part of a recurring pattern of attacks in the area, blaming the lack of security forces.

“The bandits have repeatedly targeted Garga. Yesterday evening, three people were killed, others were injured, and several homes burnt. Some people are still missing, and we do not know their fate,” he said.

According to reports, local hunters and vigilantes from Garga and neighboring villages pursued the attackers, forcing them to retreat.

Efforts to reach Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, for comment before publication were unsuccessful, as calls and messages went unanswered.
