The Lagos State Police Command has taken nine suspects into custody over the death of Prince Ademola Akinloye, son of the Ajiran of Agungi, Oba Tijani Akinloye.
The prince was gunned down and attacked with machetes by assailants along Chevron Drive, near Ebano Supermarket in the community, in August 2024.
A police source disclosed on Wednesday that seven of the suspects were nabbed on February 10 by the command’s tactical squad, while two others had earlier been apprehended in connection with the same crime.
“The arrests were based on intelligence and an ongoing investigation into the violent incidents surrounding the death of the prince,” the source said, noting that some suspects were also being probed over the killing of one Sheriff Salami in the Moba community, Ajah, in April 2023.
The Ojomu Royal Family of Ajiran on Wednesday broke its silence, issuing a statement confirming its active participation in the investigation and describing both killings as brazen acts carried out within the heart of the community.
“This investigation is to ensure that murderers do not roam freely in our kingdom and that our subjects can live without fear,” the statement, signed by the monarch, read.
The royal family also stressed the need for justice, saying the probe would provide closure to bereaved families and rid the kingdom of criminal elements.
A community businessman, Bashir Fakorede, threw his weight behind the renewed investigation, praising the police for their resolve in pursuing justice for the victims.
