Several feared dead, scores abducted as gunmen raid Sokoto community

Several persons were reportedly killed while many others were abducted following an attack by suspected gunmen on a community in Sokoto State, leaving residents in panic and forcing many to flee their homes.

Sources within the community said the assailants stormed the area late at night, firing sporadically and moving from house to house before whisking away an unspecified number of residents to an unknown destination.

Eyewitnesses disclosed that the attackers operated for hours without resistance, during which several buildings were reportedly looted and destroyed, while victims sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Local residents said the incident has heightened fear across neighbouring settlements, with many families relocating to safer areas amid concerns of possible fresh attacks.

Community leaders appealed to security agencies to intensify patrols and provide adequate protection, stressing that recurring attacks have disrupted farming and economic activities in the area.

The Nigeria Police Force confirmed the incident, noting that security operatives had been deployed to restore calm and track down those responsible for the assault.

The Police also assured residents that efforts were ongoing to rescue the abducted victims and bring the perpetrators to justice, while urging members of the public to provide useful information that could aid investigations.
