Suspected armed men have abducted a husband and wife in the Eleyewo axis near Ilu-Abo, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, raising fresh anxiety among residents over security challenges in the area.
The abduction reportedly occurred on Friday evening when the couple was returning to their residence, with eyewitnesses saying the attackers ambushed them at the gate of their home.
The male victim, a meat trader widely known as Shakur, was said to have been taken away together with his wife during the incident.
A resident who tried to alert neighbours during the attack was allegedly shot by the assailants and is currently battling for his life at a medical facility.
Community sources disclosed that the victims had married last year and recently completed construction of their house before the gunmen struck.
Locals expressed concern that cases of kidnapping have become increasingly common in the neighbourhood, forcing many residents to live in constant fear.
In protest over the incident, angry youths and residents took to the streets on Saturday, urging the Ondo State Government and security agencies to strengthen security measures and restore safety in the community.
