Suspected burglars have struck a phone charging outlet in the Jada Local Government Area of Adamawa State, carting away no fewer than 40 mobile phones belonging to customers.
The daring operation, which occurred at the shop of one Muhammad Mai Caji, located along the road to Unguwar Duta’era, was executed while the shop owner had stepped out to observe the Isha prayer at a nearby mosque, leaving the premises unguarded.
Sources familiar with the incident told our correspondent that the stolen devices belonged to customers who had deposited their handsets at the shop for overnight charging, a common practice in the area.
The thieves did not stop at the phones. They also made away with cash proceeds from the shop’s Point of Sale (POS) terminal, compounding the losses suffered by the already distressed shop owner.
“The owner has reported the matter to the police and is currently reaching out to affected customers whose phones were taken,” a source close to the development disclosed.
The incident has thrown both the shop owner and his customers into a state of distress, as they grapple with the financial and personal consequences of the theft.
Residents of the community, visibly unsettled by the development, have called on security agencies to step up night patrols in the area, warning that incidents of burglary were becoming increasingly frequent and brazen.
Police response to the matter could not be immediately confirmed as of press time.
