Ondo woman seeks divorce over alleged assault, infidelity

A middle-aged woman, Mrs Babalola Moradeke Helen, has approached a Customary Court sitting in Oke-Eda, Akure, Ondo State, seeking the dissolution of her marriage to her husband, Mr Temitope Babalola, over alleged assault, infidelity and threat to her life.

At the resumed hearing, counsel to the respondent, A.O. Adeyemi, informed the court that moves were being made to resolve the dispute amicably outside the courtroom.

However, counsel to the petitioner, K.M. Olowe, told the court that she was unaware of any arrangement or meeting aimed at settling the matter between both parties.

Testifying before the court, the petitioner said the marriage was contracted under customary law in December 2013 and lasted for about 12 years, during which she allegedly experienced hardship and repeated abuse.

She accused her husband of subjecting her to frequent physical assaults and engaging in extramarital relationships, adding that she lived without peace throughout the marriage.

Mrs Babalola further alleged that her husband defrauded several individuals and once assaulted her severely, leading to a miscarriage. She also claimed he threatened her life, allegedly boasting about being a cult member capable of harming her.

The petitioner added that her husband’s alleged smoking and excessive drinking forced her to leave their matrimonial home in June 2025, while also accusing him of uploading her nude videos online, an act she said caused deep embarrassment. She therefore urged the court to dissolve the marriage, insisting she could no longer endure the situation.
