Nursing mother killed, two injured in alleged rent dispute attack in Ondo

Tension gripped residents of Ore, headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Thursday after a nursing mother was allegedly stabbed to death during a disagreement over house rent.

The suspect, 27-year-old Quozeem Awe, said to be a landlord’s son, allegedly attacked Deborah Adeleye, leading to her death, while her husband, Mathew Adeleye, and their daughter sustained injuries.

The incident occurred in the early hours of the day at the Ore Alaba area near a popular school, sending shockwaves through the community as frightened neighbours reportedly ran for safety.

Witnesses said the crisis stemmed from a prolonged disagreement between the suspect and tenants concerning rent payments and a quit notice earlier issued to occupants of the building.

Narrating his experience from the hospital, Mathew Adeleye said the family had already secured another apartment and was preparing to move when the suspect allegedly gained entry into their residence.

He claimed the attacker stabbed his wife shortly after entering the room and later injured him during a struggle, while their child was wounded while attempting to escape and call for help.

Residents were said to have rushed the victims to a medical facility, while the suspect later turned himself in to the police, who have deposited the deceased’s body in a morgue and commenced investigation into the case.
