Elders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State have praised the judiciary for its timely intervention in stopping the party’s scheduled state congress.
The Federal High Court in Akure issued an ex parte order on Monday, restraining the APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from proceeding with the congress set for Tuesday, March 3, 2026, or validating the earlier ward and local government congresses held in February amid widespread controversy.
The ruling, delivered by Justice Toyin Bolaji Adegoke, on March 2nd 2026, in response to a suit filed by aggrieved party members, who alleged exclusion and irregularities in the process.
This decision follows ongoing tensions within the Ondo APC, including violent disruptions during ward congresses, attacks on party members, and deep divisions that prompted elders. particularly those under the Ondo APC Elders Movement for Tinubu to reject the exercises, petition President Bola Tinubu, and warn of threats to party unity ahead of future elections.
In a statement, the Coordinator of the APC Elders Movement for Tinubu, Otunba Agboola Kelly, commended the judiciary’s action as a necessary safeguard for justice, fairness, and internal party democracy.
He added that the court’s intervention helps preserve party stability, prevents further escalation of intra-party conflicts, and aligns with efforts to maintain unity in support of President Tinubu’s vision and the APC’s broader objectives.
The elders said the court’s decision is a crucial step toward upholding due process and ensuring that party processes reflect genuine inclusivity and transparency.
