Young man allegedly sets family house on fire in Lagos

A suspected drug user reportedly set his family house ablaze in Lagos following a dispute with relatives.

A video shared widely on social media on Wednesday showed family members struggling to escape as fire consumed parts of the building.

In the clip, occupants could be heard shouting for help while attempting to flee.

The person who recorded the footage claimed the suspect, believed to be between 21 and 25 years old, had earlier argued violently with his family.

He was reportedly wearing several chains around his neck before allegedly starting the fire.

The narrator added that the suspect vandalised property within the compound, including smashing the windscreen of a Lexus Prado. Several household items were reportedly destroyed during the disturbance.

The suspect’s mother was seen outside the house in visible panic, while other relatives gathered nearby as the blaze spread.

Officials from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service were said to have responded to the scene, working to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighbouring homes.

At the time of filing this report, the exact location of the incident could not be independently confirmed.

It was also unclear whether there were any injuries or arrests, as authorities had yet to release an official statement.
