Police apprehend suspected criminal, recover pistol in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a suspected criminal, Dare Shogaolu, popularly known as “Super M,” during a stop-and-search operation in the Mushin area of Lagos.

Shogaolu, 30, was reportedly apprehended by operatives of the Anti-Crime Patrol Team attached to the Mushin Division after he was allegedly found in possession of a bag containing a locally fabricated pistol.

The command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.

According to Adebisi, the suspect was arrested around 10 p.m. on March 5, 2026, along the LUTH Road axis in Mushin during a routine patrol by officers led by the Divisional Police Officer.

She explained that the patrol team stopped the suspect after observing his suspicious movements while carrying a white and orange-yellow polythene bag.

A search conducted by the officers allegedly led to the discovery of a locally made pistol concealed inside the bag.

Other items recovered from the suspect included a black leather purse, some charms and three pairs of slippers.

The police spokesperson added that preliminary investigations suggested the suspect might be connected to a number of criminal incidents in the Mushin area and could also be linked to disturbances previously recorded in the community.

She noted that the suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue, while efforts are ongoing to track down other suspected members of his criminal gang.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Olohundare Jimoh, reaffirmed the command’s determination to ensure the safety of residents and maintain law and order across the state.

He also urged members of the public to assist the police by providing credible and timely information through the command’s emergency numbers: 07061019374, 08065154338, 08063299264, 08039344870 and 09168630929.
