Army foils terrorist attacks, seizes AK-47

Troops of the Nigerian Army have thwarted terrorist activities and recovered an AK-47 rifle during separate operations in Katsina State.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed the development in a post on X on Monday, saying the operations took place in Kankara and Malumfashi Local Government Areas.

In Kankara, soldiers of the 17 Brigade, operating from Forward Operating Base Mabai, engaged suspected terrorists along the Kankara-Mabai Road around 7:45 a.m. on March 15.

The confrontation occurred near Ruwan Lafia crossing point, prompting the attackers to flee and abandon a motorcycle, which was later recovered by the troops.

In Malumfashi, troops responded to intelligence reports of terrorist activity in Ruwan Sanyi Village around 11:10 p.m. on March 14.

On arrival, the soldiers clashed with the suspects, who reportedly fled with gunshot injuries, leaving traces of blood behind.

During a follow-up search, troops recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with 17 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

Security sources said military units continue to patrol the affected areas to prevent further attacks and restrict terrorists’ movement.
