The Ekiti State Police Command has arraigned a 25-year-old man, John Joseph, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court over alleged involvement in a motorcycle theft.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Ayodeji Aina, told the court that the defendant was brought before Chief Magistrate D. M. Babalogbon on charges bordering on felony and stealing.
Aina alleged that the incident occurred on March 12, 2026, at about 1pm in Ado-Ekiti, where the defendant, alongside others said to be at large, unlawfully took a Bajaj motorcycle valued at N1,260,000, property of one Timthang Daven.
According to the prosecutor, the alleged offences contravene Sections 421 and 302(1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Counsel to the defendant, Barrister Oluwafemi Alabi, appealed to the court to grant his client bail, assuring that he would not abscond during the trial.
Ruling on the application, the magistrate granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
The case was subsequently adjourned till April 16, 2026, for further hearing.
