JUST IN: Bandits storm Kwara church, abduct worshippers

Suspected bandits on Sunday invaded an ECWA Church in Omugo community, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, kidnapping several worshippers during a service.

The attack, which occurred in the early hours, reportedly sparked fear among residents and members of the congregation.

Sources said the gunmen forcefully entered the church premises and took away a number of worshippers before security personnel intervened.

It was learnt that about seven persons were initially abducted in the incident.

Security operatives later launched a response operation and succeeded in rescuing three of the victims from the kidnappers.

The state Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, confirmed the incident and said efforts were ongoing to secure the release of those still held captive.

She commended the prompt collaboration between security agencies, local vigilantes, and forest guards, noting that their actions helped to repel the attackers.

Olukoju condemned the assault on the place of worship and assured residents that authorities were intensifying efforts to apprehend the culprits and prevent further attacks.
