A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has ordered the remand of a 40-year-old man in correctional custody over allegations of conspiracy and fraud involving about N100 million.
The defendant, Adedeji Victor Olusola, was ordered into custody following an application by the prosecution, which argued that there was probable cause to remand him pending further investigation and formal arraignment.
The prosecutor, Inspector Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that Olusola was reasonably suspected of defrauding one Adedayo Olumuyiwa and 11 others of the said sum through conspiracy and fraudulent conduct.
Adeniyi stated that the alleged offences were punishable under Section 329 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State (2021), as well as Sections 1(3) and 11 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act (2006).
He added that the incidents allegedly occurred within the Ado and Ikere-Ekiti Magisterial Districts between January and February 2026.
The prosecutor also noted that investigations were still ongoing and that the defendant would be formally arraigned at the Federal High Court upon completion.
Olusola, who was represented by Barrister Adunni Olanipekun, did not take his plea as the matter was not yet ripe for hearing.
The Chief Magistrate, Dolamu Babalogbon, granted the prosecution’s prayers and ordered the defendant’s remand in correctional custody.
The case was subsequently adjourned to April 23 for mention.
