Man arrested for killing cousin, hiding body in compound

The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended a 35-year-old man, Chukwudalu Ezeani, for allegedly murdering his 52-year-old cousin, Chinedu Ezeani, and burying the body in a shallow grave within his residence in Afube village, Amichi, Nnewi South Local Government Area.

The incident reportedly took place on August 1, 2025, at around 8 p.m., but the crime remained undiscovered for nearly eight months.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the case was first reported as a missing person matter at the Amichi Police Station.

“Following credible intelligence, operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, reopened the case, which led to the arrest of Chukwudalu Ezeani in connection with the death of his cousin,” Ikenga stated.

Investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly killed the deceased at his home and concealed the corpse in his compound for about eight months.

The police spokesperson added that Ezeani admitted to the crime during questioning and directed detectives to the burial site, where the decomposed body was recovered.

“The remains have been sent for forensic examination, and the suspect will be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded,” he said.

The command emphasized its dedication to ensuring justice and urged members of the public to report any suspicious activities promptly to the nearest police station.
