Fresh concerns have emerged over rising youth violence in the United Kingdom following the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old British-Nigerian, Eghosa Ogbebor, in the Woolwich area of London.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that officers responded to reports of gunfire on Lord Warwick Street on Thursday afternoon, where the teenager was found with critical injuries.
Despite urgent efforts by paramedics to save his life, the young victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said the deceased has been identified as Eghosa Ogbebor, while his family has been informed and is currently receiving support from specially trained officers.
In connection with the killing, three suspects aged 14, 16, and 18 have been taken into custody on allegations of murder and are being held as investigations continue.
Leading the inquiry, Lucie Card called on members of the public to provide any information that could assist detectives, stressing that the case remains active.
She also reassured residents that security has been stepped up across Woolwich to ease tensions, noting that the tragic death of such a young victim has deeply unsettled the community.
The police chief extended sympathies to the bereaved family, who have appealed for privacy as they mourn their loss.
The incident adds to growing anxiety over violent crimes involving young people across the UK.
In a similar case earlier this year, John Onetufo was fatally stabbed in Lewisham on New Year’s Eve, with a teenager subsequently charged, highlighting an escalating pattern of youth-related violence.
