The Taraba State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the killing of three police officers in Donga Local Government Area of the state.
The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday in Jalingo by its spokesperson, Victor Mshelizah.
According to the police, the suspects, identified as Suleman Abdullahi, 30, and Idris Kauri, 33, both from Akete Village, were apprehended following investigations into the attack on officers at Tse Kwe Tor Damisa in Donga LGA.
The statement said the policemen were ambushed and killed by suspected militia members, who also made away with their service rifles.
It added that the stolen weapons had since been recovered, while the suspects remain in custody pending the conclusion of investigations and subsequent prosecution.
“The command has successfully tracked and arrested some of the suspects involved in the attack. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other accomplices still at large,” the statement read.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Morkwap Dongshal, had earlier visited the scene as part of an on-the-spot assessment of the security situation in Donga and neighbouring Takum Local Government Area.
In a separate development, police operatives attached to the Zing Divisional Headquarters intercepted two other suspects during a stop-and-search operation at Yonko.
The suspects, Torme Terzugwe, 39, from Kwande LGA of Benue State, and Job David, 35, from Toungo LGA of Adamawa State, were reportedly found in possession of 304 rounds of live ammunition.
Police said the suspects were intercepted while riding an unregistered motorcycle en route to Ganye LGA of Adamawa State, adding that investigations are ongoing.
