Fresh fear has gripped residents of Akure, the Ondo State capital, following a deadly attack by suspected kidnappers in which a mother and her daughter were killed, even as police confirmed the rescue of two other victims.
The incident reportedly occurred at Igushin via Ala in Akure, where armed men stormed the area, leaving two people dead in what has been described as a violent abduction attempt.
While confirming the development, the Ondo State Police Command condemned the attack, describing it as a brutal act that claimed innocent lives.
Police spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, said operatives responded swiftly to the incident and were able to rescue two victims during a coordinated operation.
“The Ondo State Police Command strongly condemns the violent incident at Igushin via Ala, Akure, which unfortunately led to the loss of two lives,” he stated.
“Two victims were, however, rescued through a swift and coordinated response by our operatives. We regret the tragic outcome of the incident.”
Jimoh added that security deployments had been intensified in the affected area, assuring residents that efforts were ongoing to apprehend those behind the attack.
He said, “We have strengthened security in the area and our operatives are actively working to track down the perpetrators so they can be brought to justice.”
The police also urged residents to remain vigilant and assist security agencies with useful information that could aid ongoing investigations.
The latest attack has further heightened anxiety in parts of Ondo State, with calls growing for increased security presence to curb recurring cases of abductions and violent crime.
