A Magistrate’s Court in Damaturu, Yobe State, has convicted and sentenced a 22-year-old man, Rabilu Sani, to 12 years imprisonment for sexually abusing a four-year-old girl in Jakusko Local Government Area.
The presiding magistrate, Ahmed Mohammed Bahuya, handed down the verdict after concluding that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, noting that the evidence before the court was convincing.
The court ruled that the convict must serve the jail term without the option of a fine.
Court officials also addressed concerns surrounding the health status of the offender, stating that medical evaluations confirmed he is not infected with HIV.
The clarification followed earlier speculation that had sparked anxiety about the condition of the young victim.
The case was prosecuted with the backing of the Yobe State Government through the Ministry of Women Affairs.
The Commissioner, Hajiya Ya Jalo Badamra, reaffirmed the state’s commitment to protecting children and ensuring offenders are held accountable.
Findings indicated that the incident occurred on November 9, 2025, when the suspect allegedly lured the child and carried out the act.
Medical reports tendered in court showed that the victim sustained injuries and was subsequently treated.
