Suspected bandits have intensified attacks on major roads in Zamfara State, abducting several commuters and killing one person in coordinated assaults across Maradun and Bukkuyum Local Government Areas.
The latest incidents, which occurred on busy routes frequently used by traders and travellers, have sparked renewed concerns over the deteriorating security situation and the safety of road users in the state.
Information circulating on X from security analyst Bakatsine indicated that the attackers initially struck along the Janbako–Maradun axis in Maradun LGA, where they reportedly barricaded the road, attacked moving vehicles, shot dead one victim and abducted an unspecified number of passengers.
In another attack, the armed men were said to have targeted motorists along the Gurusu–Anka road, seizing several individuals, including phone traders believed to be returning from the Nasarawar Bukkuyyum market in Bukkuyum LGA.
The twin attacks highlight the persistent threat posed by armed groups operating in the region and the increasing risks faced by commuters along major highways.
Commenting on the development, Bakatsine raised concerns over the recurring nature of such incidents, questioning the absence of consistent security measures to safeguard lives and property on the affected roads.
At the time of this report, there had been no official response from security agencies or government authorities regarding the attacks.
