A 61-year-old Nigerian based in the United Kingdom, Anthony Adewale Sobogun, has been sentenced to 28 years in prison for sexually abusing two minors over a span of 15 years.
The Metropolitan Police announced on Wednesday that Sobogun, a resident of Thistlewood Crescent, Croydon, was convicted at the Inner London Crown Court on multiple counts of historical sexual offences.
According to investigators, the crimes, which occurred between the 1990s and early 2000s, involved repeated sexual violations of a girl under the age of 13, including rape.
Police revealed that Sobogun was arrested on July 2, 2025, after a detailed probe that centred on the testimonies of the victims, enabling officers to compile compelling evidence for prosecution.
Detective Constable Charlotte Lockyer, who spoke on the case, said the outcome was largely due to the victims’ resolve to come forward and cooperate with investigators.
She stressed that their actions not only ensured justice was served but also protected others from potential harm, adding that the case demonstrates that time does not shield offenders from accountability.
In a joint reaction, the victims described the ordeal as part of a broader issue, noting that such abuse often remains hidden due to fear and societal stigma.
They urged other survivors to break their silence, insisting that justice can still be achieved irrespective of how long the abuse occurred.
The victims also expressed gratitude to the Metropolitan Police, the Crown Prosecution Service, and the prosecuting lawyer for their diligence in handling the matter.
Authorities further stated that the investigation adopted a victim-centred strategy, including the use of specialised interview environments to support the collection of sensitive evidence.
