The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 43-year-old man, Idowu Ashafa, after he was allegedly found in possession of human body parts under suspicious circumstances.
The arrest was made in the early hours of April 17, 2026, during a routine patrol by officers led by Divisional Police Officer, Solotan Owolabi.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed that the suspect was apprehended with a human head and two severed palms hidden inside a nylon bag.
According to the police, initial investigations suggest that the remains were dug up from a gravesite at Ido Itekun Village, Igbesa.
“The suspect allegedly exhumed the body parts from a grave, and the items recovered point to possible ritual intentions.
The tool used for the act has also been retrieved, while the scene has been inspected and documented,” the statement read.
Babaseyi further stated that the case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department for an in-depth investigation.
The police command reaffirmed its commitment to tackling criminal activities across the state and urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly alert authorities to any suspicious conduct in their communities.
