Human rights activist and publisher, Omoyele Sowore, on Monday took a swipe at former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, during proceedings at the Federal High Court, Abuja.
In a video that surfaced online, Sowore was seen addressing Malami directly, suggesting that the former minister was now facing the consequences of a system he once defended while in office.
“You see how it feels now to be persecuted. When you were in government, you were confident. We warned you about the flaws in the justice system, but you did not listen. Now the same system is dealing with you,” Sowore said.
The activist, who has had previous confrontations with law enforcement agencies, also made a symbolic gesture by offering Malami what he described as a “revolutionary cap.”
Despite his criticism, Sowore acknowledged Malami’s composure, noting that he appeared to be handling the situation with resilience.
He maintained that the challenges within the justice system affect both critics and former public office holders, stressing that no individual is immune to systemic shortcomings.
“We are not all on the same side, but the system spares no one,” he added.
Responding briefly, Malami said he remained steadfast and committed to the legal process.
“I have been attending all my court sittings and will continue to do so. I remain strong,” he stated.
The former minister also disclosed that he had been participating in meetings of the African Democratic Congress, but was unable to attend the recent opposition summit held in Ibadan, Oyo State, over the weekend.
