Suspected gunmen have attacked a Police Mobile Force camp in Tenebo community, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing three officers and leaving two others injured.
The assault, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, threw the agrarian community into panic as residents fled amid sustained gunfire.
Sources said the attackers stormed the facility in large numbers, catching security operatives off guard before overpowering them.
A resident, Suleiman Issa, who recounted the incident, said the attack began around midnight.
He said, “The incident happened around 1am in Tenebo village. Armed men invaded the community in large numbers. People were killed and others sustained injuries.”
Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said details of the incident were still being compiled.
“I can confirm that there was an attack on the PMF camp in the early hours of today. Further information will be provided in due course,” she stated.
The latest incident underscores the persistent security challenges in Kaiama Local Government Area, where communities and security formations have come under repeated attacks in recent months.
On April 20, suspected gunmen reportedly overran a joint security outpost in Kemanji, killing three soldiers and two vigilantes, while carting away an Army gun truck and other equipment.
Similarly, on April 10, five members of a local forest guard were killed in Nuku community, with attackers also setting operational vehicles ablaze.
Earlier in February, coordinated attacks in Woro and Nuku communities reportedly left over 200 people dead, with about 176 others abducted, including women and children.
