Suspected kidnappers have abducted a 60-year-old businessman in Ibadan, raising fresh concerns over security in the state capital.
The victim, identified as a building materials trader, was reportedly kidnapped on Saturday while returning to his residence along the Jinarere axis of Alakia.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, said efforts were ongoing to secure the victim’s release.
According to him, preliminary findings showed that the businessman was ambushed by four masked gunmen who whisked him away in a vehicle.
“The victim, a 60-year-old male, was accosted while returning home along the Jinarere axis of Alakia Road by four masked armed men, who forcefully abducted him in an unregistered ash-coloured Toyota Corolla,” he said.
Ayanlade added that security operatives had launched an investigation and were intensifying efforts to track down the suspects and rescue the victim unharmed.
The incident adds to a growing list of abductions reported in parts of the country in recent weeks.
