A United States court has convicted a 42-year-old man, Jonny Gregory, for violently assaulting and strangling his wife during a domestic dispute reportedly triggered by an argument over laundry detergent.
A jury at a superior court in Washington, D.C., delivered the guilty verdict on Monday, finding Gregory culpable on a one-count charge related to the attack, which occurred on January 5, 2026.
Officials from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia confirmed the development, noting that the defendant has remained in custody since his arrest a day after the incident.
The presiding judge, Deborah Israel, has scheduled sentencing for July 31, 2026.
In a statement, prosecutors described the conviction as a reflection of the gravity of the offence, stressing that acts of domestic violence would continue to attract firm legal consequences.
Court filings revealed that the altercation escalated into a brutal assault, during which the defendant allegedly forced his wife to the ground, repeatedly struck her and pinned her down before strangling her with both hands.
Authorities said the victim lost consciousness during the attack and was later rushed to a hospital for treatment.
The incident reportedly occurred in the presence of the couple’s teenage daughter, who witnessed the assault.
Law enforcement officials reiterated their commitment to prosecuting domestic violence cases, describing the attack as a disturbing example of escalating household disputes turning deadly.
