Suspected bandits have kidnapped retired Major General Rabe Abubakar and his wife in Katsina State.
The incident occurred on Saturday while the couple was travelling through the state. According to reports, armed men intercepted their vehicle and took them to an unknown location.
Speaking on the development, Michael Onoja, Director of Defence Media Operations at the Defence Headquarters, said security agencies have launched efforts to rescue the victims and bring the kidnappers to justice.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force had not issued an official statement on the abduction.
Katsina remains one of the states most affected by banditry and kidnapping despite ongoing military operations aimed at restoring peace. In March, three soldiers were reportedly killed during a gun battle with bandits in Danmusa Local Government Area.
The latest abduction comes more than a year after retired Major General Maharazu Tsiga was kidnapped in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina in February 2025. He later regained his freedom after spending 56 days in captivity.
Security operatives are continuing search-and-rescue operations as efforts intensify to secure the release of the retired army officer and his wife.
