The Oyo State Police Command has taken two individuals into custody over the alleged diversion of diesel in Ibadan.
The development was confirmed in a statement released on Friday by the command’s spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade.
According to the statement, operatives of the Command Monitoring Unit acted on intelligence reports and, with support from residents, apprehended the suspects at a construction firm within the metropolis.
The suspects, Yusuf Mutiyat, 43, and Ogunniyan Rasheed, 64, were reportedly caught siphoning a liquid substance believed to be diesel from a mixer truck at the premises of Kopek Construction Company.
Ayanlade stated that the operation led to the interception of the duo while the alleged act was ongoing.
He further disclosed that a follow-up search resulted in the recovery of 24 barrels containing 240 litres each of a substance suspected to be diesel.
The product, estimated at about 10,000 litres, is valued at roughly N12m, the police said.
The command reiterated its resolve to clamp down on criminal activities in the state, noting that investigations into the matter were in progress.
