Troops of the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army have killed two suspected terrorists during a tactical operation along the Akunu–Auga Road in Ondo State.
The operation, carried out by soldiers stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Auga, followed credible intelligence reports indicating the movement of suspected criminal elements within the area.
The Assistant Director, Army Public Relations for the brigade, Major Irabor Njoka, disclosed that the troops quickly mobilised to intercept the suspects, leading to a gun battle between the soldiers and the armed men.
According to him, the troops overpowered the suspects during the exchange of fire, killing two of them, while others escaped into nearby bushes with suspected gunshot injuries.
Njoka added that the operation was conducted in collaboration with operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun, alongside local vigilante groups.
Items recovered from the scene included an AK-47 rifle, two magazines loaded with 61 rounds of ammunition, three mobile phones, a jackknife, a torchlight, suspected illicit substances, charms and the sum of ₦39,000, among other personal belongings.
The brigade described the operation as a demonstration of the Nigerian Army’s resolve to restrict the activities of criminal groups and safeguard lives and property across the state.
It further assured residents that clearance operations and patrols would be intensified along identified criminal routes, while urging members of the public to continue providing credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity.
