A husband and wife kidnapped in Ilu Abo, Akure North Local Government Area, have been released after a ransom payment of N5m.
The couple, identified as Jamiu Olawale and his spouse, were reportedly whisked away by gunmen last Friday shortly after they arrived home from work. They remained in captivity for four days before regaining their freedom on Tuesday night.
A close family source, who requested anonymity for security reasons, confirmed that the abductors released the victims after receiving N5m.
According to the source, the kidnappers had initially demanded N40m but later reduced the amount to N12m during negotiations. The figure was eventually brought down to N5m, which secured the couple’s freedom.
Their return has been met with relief by relatives and members of the community, who had expressed anxiety over the incident.
