The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended six individuals suspected of defrauding residents in Idanre by pretending to perform miracles. The arrests underscore the command’s intensified efforts to tackle fraud and other criminal activities in the state.
DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the police public relations officer, said the suspects were arrested on February 16 after an intelligence-led operation involving tactical units and Community Safety Officers.
According to the police, the suspects posed as pastors and spiritual advisers, claiming they could solve financial, health, and personal problems through miracles. They allegedly exploited victims’ faith and emotions to extract money through deception.
The suspects—Fadahunsi, Kolade, Tijani, Iyanuoluwa, Arijesulola, and Ademola—reportedly operated as a coordinated group, with each member playing a specific role to make their schemes appear legitimate. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of their activities and the number of people defrauded.
All six suspects are in custody and will face court charges once the investigation is completed. Authorities warned that additional members of the syndicate might still be at large.
Jimoh advised the public to be cautious and skeptical of anyone promising miracles or quick solutions to personal problems, urging them to report suspicious gatherings to the nearest police station.
The police command emphasized its commitment to ensuring public safety in Ondo State through strategic operations, intelligence gathering, and community collaboration to combat crime and protect residents’ lives and property.
