Suspected bandits have reportedly killed no fewer than three personnel of the Nigeria Police Force during fresh attacks on communities in Musawa and Matazu Local Government Areas of Katsina State on Easter Sunday.
The assailants were said to have struck Tangani and Sayaya villages, leaving additional casualties among residents and triggering renewed concerns over the deteriorating security situation in the state.
A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress and former Minister of State for Education, Lawal Batagarawa, disclosed the incident while addressing journalists, noting that the attacks occurred simultaneously across affected communities.
He decried the persistent killings in the North, warning that the situation reflects a broader security crisis confronting several states.
According to him, the slain policemen and other victims lost their lives in the course of the coordinated assaults, which also affected neighbouring settlements.
Batagarawa criticised what he described as inadequate response by authorities, urging governments at all levels to urgently strengthen efforts to safeguard lives and property.
He warned that continued failure to curb the violence could further destabilise communities already under pressure from repeated attacks.
The former minister also commiserated with bereaved families, residents of the affected areas, and the police over the loss of officers in the line of duty.
