The Ogun State Police Command has taken into custody a man, Oluwadamilare Ewedemi, over allegations of sustained abuse involving his daughter, in a case that has stirred concern among residents.
The arrest followed a formal complaint lodged by the 21-year-old victim at the Ifo Divisional Police Headquarters, prompting security operatives to launch an investigation into the claims.
According to police sources, the alleged incidents began in 2019 after the suspect assumed custody of the victim from a care home in Ikeja, Lagos, and brought her to Ijebu Ode to live with him.
The victim, whose identity has been withheld, told investigators she had been under his care since then and endured repeated maltreatment over an extended period.
She further alleged that the situation led to several pregnancies, which were later terminated.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, said officers acted promptly on the report, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
She added that the victim had earlier fled the residence due to ongoing distress and sought refuge at a religious centre in the Pakoto area before reporting the matter.
“The complainant reported a prolonged period of abuse by her biological father. The suspect is currently in custody, and the matter is under active investigation,” Odutola stated.
The police spokesperson disclosed that the case had been transferred to the Gender Unit for comprehensive investigation and further legal action.
The development has heightened calls for improved protection for vulnerable persons, with residents urging authorities to ensure justice is served.
