Tragedy in Ondo as man allegedly kills mother in Supare-Akoko

A wave of shock has swept through Supare-Akoko in Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State after a man, identified simply as Ife, allegedly murdered his mother on Thursday.

The deceased, reportedly a health worker, was discovered lifeless in her home following the attack, which has left residents of the community stunned.

Sources within the area disclosed that the suspect had earlier drawn attention after he was seen holding a stick, prompting questions from concerned neighbours.

He, however, reportedly downplayed their concerns, saying he intended to use it for cooking.

A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the situation took a tragic turn shortly after.

“He was seen earlier in the day with a stick, and when people asked him what he wanted to do with it, he said he wanted to cook. Not long after, we heard about what happened,” the source said.

Further accounts indicated that the victim had only returned home briefly before the incident occurred, with some residents alleging that the suspect had previously exhibited violent behaviour towards his mother.

“It was gathered that the woman only came home to pick something before the attack. People in the neighbourhood also said the suspect had been aggressive towards her in the past,” the source added.

When our correspondent visited the scene, residents were observed in small groups discussing the development in low tones, as the community grappled with the disturbing incident.

A witness said operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun, responded promptly by arresting the suspect and removing the victim’s body from the scene.

“The Amotekun officers came quickly, took the suspect into custody and evacuated the corpse. It is something that has left everyone here in shock,” the witness said.

Some residents also alleged that the suspect was known for substance abuse, a factor they suspect may have influenced his actions.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities had yet to release an official statement on the incident.
