The Nigerian military on Friday inaugurated a General Court-Martial to try 36 personnel accused of plotting to overthrow the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
The proceedings, convened by the Defence Headquarters, were held at the Scorpion Mess in Asokoro, Abuja, under tight security.
The trial commenced behind closed doors, with authorities citing the sensitive nature of the case.
Journalists, including accredited defence correspondents who had earlier been invited, were denied access to the venue.
Security operatives also prohibited the use of mobile phones, preventing coverage of the arrival of the accused personnel.
The defendants were conveyed to the venue in a bus belonging to the Army Headquarters Garrison at about 8:53am.
The court-martial is taking place alongside separate criminal proceedings instituted by the Federal Government against civilians linked to the alleged coup plot at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
