A 37-year-old man, Ziaulihak Zakari, popularly known as Abuja, has allegedly confessed to receiving N500,000 to carry out an acid attack on a female spa worker in the Lakowe area of Lagos State.
The victim, Olorunseunfunmi Awosogbon, reportedly suffered severe burns to her head, chest and hands during the attack, which occurred on October 25, 2025.
It was gathered that Awosogbon had honoured a home service appointment booked through the spa where she worked. The service was scheduled to take place at Lakowe Golf Gate, near Utmost Care Hospital, when the incident happened.
Investigations, however, revealed that the victim was allegedly attacked in error.
Speaking on the incident, the spa owner, Olorunmaye Ifeoluwa, disclosed that the attack was linked to a disagreement involving a former relationship between her and another suspect accused of masterminding the assault.
According to her, the relationship lasted only a few months and was plagued by repeated disputes before it eventually ended.
Zakari and another suspect, Owolabi Daniel, have since been arraigned before an Ebute-Metta Magistrate Court on charges bordering on conspiracy, threat to life and causing bodily harm.
In a video said to have been obtained after his arrest on March 19, 2026, Zakari allegedly admitted that he was recruited to execute the attack but mistakenly assaulted the wrong person.
He said a man identified as Daniel contacted him through a security guard and offered him the job.
Zakari reportedly confessed that although he initially hesitated out of fear, he later carried out the attack during another opportunity but ended up targeting the wrong victim.
He further claimed that the corrosive substance used in the attack was provided by the alleged mastermind and the security guard who linked them up.
The suspect added that he received N500,000 for the operation and paid N50,000 to the security guard as commission for facilitating the deal.
According to the charge sheet, the defendants allegedly conspired in October 2025 at Lakowe, in the Ibeju-Lekki area, to commit felony offences, including threat to life and inflicting bodily harm, contrary to Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The prosecution also alleged that Owolabi threatened Ifeoluwa through WhatsApp messages, an offence punishable under Section 232 of the same law.
Zakari was further accused of unlawfully causing injury to Awosogbon by pouring a corrosive substance on her, contrary to Section 246 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
