A 37-year-old man has reportedly murdered his girlfriend in the Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State over a dispute involving N100,000 (One Hundred Thousand Naira).1
According to a press release from the Nigeria Police Force, via Force Public Relations Officer DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, the incident occurred on October 7, 2025, around 5:30 PM. Ngozi Gregory, a 45-year-old woman, reported at the Idanre Divisional Police Headquarters that Omokinwa Ademola, the male suspect and an ex-convict, assaulted his girlfriend, Joy Jimoh, over a disagreement regarding the repayment of the borrowed sum.
The report indicated that during the altercation, the suspect became violent and repeatedly assaulted the victim until she lost consciousness. She was rushed to the hospital for medical care, where she was unfortunately pronounced dead by a medical professional.
Upon receiving the information, the Divisional Police Officer of Idanre Division led a team of detectives to the scene, where the suspect was apprehended. The body of the deceased was subsequently moved to the morgue for a post-mortem examination, and preliminary investigations commenced.
The Commissioner of Police for Ondo State, CP Adebowale Lawal, has strongly condemned the violent act that resulted in the victim’s tragic death. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice, emphasizing that domestic violence and brutality will not be tolerated. As a result, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for a thorough and professional investigation.
While assuring the residents of Ondo State of the Command’s ongoing efforts to protect lives and property, the Commissioner expressed gratitude to Inspector-General of Police IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, for his leadership and support, which have enhanced proactive policing and operational effectiveness nationwide. He also urged the public to remain law-abiding and report any suspicious or criminal activities to the nearest police station for immediate action.
