In a series of occurrences archetypal of a twist of fate and the irony of existence, a post made on X last month by the slain Arise TV presenter, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, wherein she prayed that Nigeria would never happen to her and her loved ones has resurfaced online.
The post, made on August 14, 2025 with the X account name (@Sommie_xo) read, “I pray from the depth of my heart that Nigeria never happens to me or anyone I care about.”
It has elicited pity and angst from friends, fans and admirers nationwide as it once again underpins the volatility of the Nigerian security architecture and the palpable fear of death which Nigerians have to daily grapple with.
In another perspective, the post bespeaks the unpredictability of life and betrays the futility of human existence as it once again serves as a reminder that tomorrow is not guaranteed to anyone.
Maduagwu, a trained lawyer and TV presenter was gunned down in Abuja on Monday during an armed robbery incident, exactly a month and 15 days after she made the now viral post.
Born on December 26, 1995– three months shy of her 30th birthday– she studied law at the University of Surrey, Guildford in the United Kingdom and attended the Nigerian Law School, Bwari campus, in Abuja.
