Mrs. Regina Akume, lawmaker representing Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has called on her husband, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Senator George Akume, to return to Christianity, emphasizing that his achievements were rooted in his Christian faith.
The statement was made during the wedding reception of the SGF’s son on Sunday in Makurdi, Benue State. A video of her remarks, shared by Idoma Television, later went viral on social media.
In her address, Mrs. Akume prayed for her husband’s health and longevity, warning against abandoning Christianity. She said:
“He should remember that he is a Christian, and it is Christianity that brought him this far. To drop Christianity now and go for anything else, he will not be successful. My advice to him is to come back to Christianity and follow the line of Christ.”
Her comments follow reports that Senator Akume recently married another wife, Queen Zaynab Ngohemba-George Akume Dajoh. The Akume Dajoh family announced the union on Facebook, welcoming the new bride into their family and the Benue State community.
Queen Zaynab, previously known as Olori Wuraola, was married to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, in 2016. That marriage ended in 2017 after approximately 17 months.
The remarks by Mrs. Akume have reignited public conversations regarding the SGF’s faith and personal life, highlighting the intersection of religion, culture, and politics in Nigeria.
