Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has revealed his intention to compete for the Kogi Central Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
Bello made this announcement during a visit to the palace of the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, where he engaged with traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community stakeholders from the senatorial district.
A video documenting the visit and his announcement was shared on Bello’s verified Facebook page on Monday.
“I accept to run for the Senate in 2027,” the former governor stated while addressing the attendees.
Present at the event was Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, along with various political figures and leaders from the community.
According to journalists at the event, Ododo urged his predecessor to heed the calls from party leaders and constituents encouraging him to represent the district in the National Assembly.
The appeal was made in the presence of the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland and other influential figures from the region.
Bello, who served as Kogi State Governor from 2016 to 2024, continues to be a prominent figure within the All Progressives Congress in the state.
In addition, Kogi Watch reported that the Chairman of Okehi Local Government Area, Amoka Eneji, extended his congratulations to Bello for announcing his intention to run for the seat.
Eneji expressed that the former governor had dedicated significant efforts towards the unity and development of the Ebira people, emphasizing that Bello’s leadership will always hold a significant place in the history of Ebiraland.
Currently, the Kogi Central Senatorial seat is held by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who was elected in 2023.
Akpoti-Uduaghan, a lawyer and former governorship aspirant, made history as the first woman to represent the district in the Senate.
