The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly impersonating a security officer and seized a locally made firearm, live cartridges, and charms during a raid in Akure.
The suspect, Adepoju Pelumi, was intercepted on February 10, 2026, at the Onyerugbule Under Bridge by officers of the Command Special Operations Squad (CSOS).
He reportedly presented a forged identity card claiming to be a security operative, prompting the team to investigate further.
Police subsequently conducted a search of Pelumi’s home in the Igoba area of Akure, where they recovered a single-barrel locally made gun, three live rounds, and charms suspected to be linked to criminal activity.
During initial questioning, the suspect failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for possessing the firearm and other items.
According to a statement by the police, he is currently in custody as investigations continue to determine possible connections to wider criminal networks.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, praised the prompt action and professionalism of the CSOS team.
He said the arrest demonstrates the Command’s strict stance against impersonation, illegal possession of firearms, and criminal acts in the state.
CP Lawal also acknowledged the support of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, noting that the leadership and guidance of the police chief have strengthened proactive policing and crime-fighting efforts nationwide.
He reassured residents of Ondo State of the police’s commitment to protecting lives and property and encouraged the public to provide credible information to aid security operations.
