Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun) have intercepted 61 individuals concealed inside a truck transporting bags of beans into Akure, the Ondo State capital, during a security operation.
The corps also arrested 34 other suspects over alleged offences ranging from kidnapping and armed robbery to theft, breach of public peace and violations of the state’s anti-grazing regulations.
State Commander of Amotekun, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, said the hidden passengers were discovered inside a trailer allegedly heading toward Akure North Local Government Area, which has recently witnessed increased criminal incidents.
Speaking while presenting some of the suspects to journalists, Adeleye revealed that a total of 95 suspects were currently in custody, noting that only 34 were paraded while the remaining 61 were undergoing screening and profiling.
He stated that 12 suspects were linked to kidnapping-related cases in locations including Ilu-Abo, Ayede-Akure, Iloro Camp and Ogbese, while three others were apprehended for breaching the anti-grazing law.
According to him, 19 additional suspects were arrested for offences connected to disturbances of public order during security operations carried out across different parts of the state.
The commander explained that the arrests were the outcome of sustained joint operations involving Amotekun personnel and other security agencies aimed at strengthening surveillance and intelligence gathering.
Adeleye added that security operatives had established fixed security posts in vulnerable areas and, in collaboration with community vigilantes, had thwarted several kidnapping attempts, reaffirming the agency’s resolve to curb crime throughout Ondo State.
