The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended three suspected cult members during a coordinated operation targeting a criminal hideout in the Arakale area of Akure.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday that the operation was conducted under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, as part of ongoing efforts to tackle cultism and related crimes.
Jimoh explained that operatives of the Tactical Intelligence Response Squad acted on credible intelligence and stormed the location at about 11pm on February 10, 2026, where suspected cult activities were reportedly taking place.
According to the police, the suspects identified as Damilola, also known as “2Gbaski,” aged 34, Uthman, 29, and Akinwale, were arrested at the scene and are believed to be affiliated with the Supreme Eiye Confraternity.
Items recovered during the raid included an axe, a beret cap, a Retevis walkie-talkie, sachets of tramadol, substances suspected to be cannabis, and an ice bunker.
The police added that the suspects had allegedly confessed to involvement in cult-related operations and other criminal acts, while further investigations were ongoing to track down other members of the group before prosecution.
The commissioner of police expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for continued operational support and guidance that have strengthened security operations in the state.
Lawal also warned young people against engaging in cult activities and appealed to residents to support the police with useful information, assuring the public of the command’s commitment to maintaining safety and order across Ondo State.
