Bandits kill 30, abduct several others in fresh attack on Zamfara village

No fewer than 30 persons have been killed and several others abducted following a deadly attack by armed bandits on Dutsin Dan Ajiya village in the Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The attack, which occurred in the late hours of Thursday, was carried out by a large gang of heavily armed bandits who arrived on motorcycles, blocked all roads leading into the village and opened fire on residents without warning.

A source within the Anka local government area, Mallam Isah, who spoke in visible distress, confirmed the grim details of the overnight assault, saying the death toll was established after residents combed the area at dawn.

“We have counted no fewer than 30 dead bodies this morning, from the main road leading to the Dutsin Ajiya village up to the town,” he said.

Mallam Isah further disclosed that several villagers sustained varying degrees of injuries, while many others fled their homes in panic following the invasion, leaving behind their belongings in a desperate bid to escape further harm.

“As I am talking to you, people in the community and surrounding villages are leaving in fear. Children and women are crying,” he lamented.

The attack has thrown the entire community and its environs into a state of shock and grief, with residents of neighbouring villages also joining the mass exodus out of fear of a possible follow-up assault.

Efforts to obtain an official reaction from the Zamfara State Police Command proved unsuccessful, as the Command’s Public Relations Officer could not be reached on his lines as of the time this report was filed.
