Troops free three kidnapped children, eliminate five insurgents in Borno

Troops under Operation Hadin Kai have rescued three minors abducted about two months ago and killed five suspected insurgents during separate operations in Borno State.

The Joint Task Force, North-East, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday through its Media Information Officer, Lt. Col. Sanni Uba, who outlined recent offensives carried out across the operational theatre.

Uba said soldiers of Sector 1 encountered suspected members of Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad and the Islamic State West Africa Province during a fighting patrol near Sabsawa village in Borno State.

He explained that the troops engaged the insurgents with sustained firepower, compelling them to withdraw. “Subsequent exploitation led to the neutralisation of five terrorists,” he stated.

In another development, troops stationed at Ngurosoye rescued three abducted children Abba Abba, 12; Fatima Abba, 8; and Aisha Abba, 6 during a perimeter patrol in Bama Local Government Area.

Initial investigations revealed that the children were kidnapped along the Gubio axis roughly two months ago before being relocated to Bula-Daloye by their captors.

The rescued minors have since been handed over to the Nigeria Police for further action.

The statement further revealed that an 18-year-old suspect, Abubakar Abubakar, surrendered to troops in Geidam, Yobe State, and is currently undergoing profiling while in custody.

Uba added that troops operating in other sectors maintained an aggressive posture, conducting coordinated operations alongside hybrid forces, vigilantes and hunters to restrict insurgents’ movements.

He noted that the operations were executed without major setbacks, with follow-up surveillance and exploitation ongoing.

According to him, the military high command praised the troops for their determination and operational effectiveness, reaffirming its commitment to sustaining pressure on insurgent groups until lasting peace returns to the North-East.
