The Ondo State Government has directed the enforcement of a restriction on motorcycle movements between 7:00pm and 6:00am as part of measures aimed at curbing rising security challenges across the state.
The State Commander of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, announced the directive on behalf of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa while presenting more than 70 suspected criminals recently arrested in Akure.
Adeleye said the governor had also instructed that all motorcycle operators must register with the Amotekun Corps and obtain certified approval to operate within the state.
He noted that riders and motorcycle owners have been given two weeks to complete the registration at the Amotekun headquarters or at the agency’s local government commands.
According to him, anyone who fails to comply with the registration directive within the specified period would be considered to be operating illegally and could face enforcement actions.
The security agency also declared a ban on the activities of cart pushers in major cities across Ondo State in a move aimed at improving security and traffic management.
Adeleye added that the government had also prohibited the display and sale of farm produce along major roads and other unauthorised locations, directing traders to move such activities to approved markets.
He further disclosed that dealers in condemned iron scrap materials and related metals must register with the state government within two weeks.
The Amotekun commander said the directives were introduced to strengthen public safety and enhance security across the state.
He added that the suspects paraded included 18 persons arrested over alleged kidnapping, 11 linked to cult-related activities, one suspected human trafficker, one arrested for violating the anti-grazing law, and several others facing different criminal allegations.
