Anambra govt arrests popular native doctor, ‘De Young Chief Priest’

The Anambra State Government has taken into custody a prominent Nnewi-based native doctor popularly known as De Young Chief Priest as part of its ongoing crackdown on traditionalists suspected of aiding criminal activities.

The suspect was reportedly arrested on Thursday by security operatives at his office in Nnewi, Anambra State, over allegations bordering on illegal practices.

Sources said the spiritualist is currently being questioned by authorities while investigations continue into claims that some native doctors provide spiritual protection or charms for criminals in the region.

Officials are yet to release detailed information regarding the specific allegations against the suspect.

It was also gathered that the arrest may not be unconnected with the state government’s broader security campaign targeting traditionalists accused of preparing charms believed to embolden kidnappers, armed robbers and other criminal elements.

The ongoing operation, according to sources, forms part of the government’s strategy to tackle insecurity and dismantle networks suspected of supporting violent crimes across the state.
