Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested two suspected accomplices accused of providing support to kidnappers operating around Ilu-Abo community and its environs.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, who said the operation was carried out under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal.
Jimoh identified the suspects as Alhassan Muhammad, 20, and Faruq Muhammad Sanni, 25, both residents of Sabon-Sango area of Akure.
He explained that the suspects were arrested on March 15 following credible intelligence supplied by a concerned resident of Ilu-Abo community.
According to the police, the information indicated that one of the suspects, who works as a commercial motorcyclist, had been helping kidnappers by buying food and delivering supplies to their hideouts.
The police spokesman said operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad immediately swung into action and carried out a targeted operation in the area.
He added that the two suspects were arrested during the raid, while other members of the suspected kidnapping gang fled on sighting the approaching security operatives.
Jimoh noted that the suspects were assisting the police with useful information, while efforts had been intensified to track down other fleeing members of the criminal network.
